Jans Jockeys To First Career Super Stock Feature Victory!

Prepared by Chris Stepan - FYE Motorsports Promotions (June 28th 2009)

A windy and sunny Sunday afternoon met the drivers and fans of the Madison Speedway on Sunday, June 28th as a regular racing program plus make up features for the Pure Stocks from the rained out Memorial Day event were on the card.

Jordan Tollakson raced from the second row to win the make up Pure Stock feature from the rained out Memorial Day weekend event. Tollakson turned back a bid for the lead from Jesse Timm and Maria Konold in the early stages of the event and went on to win the event with ease.

After the make up feature was completed, the Street Stocks took the track for their regularly scheduled main event. After two tries to get it going, Justin Tammen took the lead from the front row, as 6th starting Travis Berends quickly dove to the inside and pulled alongside of Tammen for the lead on the second circuit. Berends took the lead from Tammen on the second restart and began to pull away out front, while Justin Vogel and Mike Jans were swapping the runner up spot on multiple occasions throughout the event. After several more cautions, Berends continued to lead with Vogel and Jans still locked in a great battle for second with Vogel using the middle groove to run down Berends toward the end of the 20-lapper. Vogel was able to nearly pull alongside Berends for the lead as the laps wound down, but Berends was able to withstand the pressure and race to the win.

Marshall Tofte took the lead at the drop of the green form the front row and immediately began to disappear into the night, while Ryan Schmitt and Jason Anderson were in a great tussle for second. Behind the leaders, Matt Suckow, Brian Haben and Ryan Bjerkeset were racing hard for position as Tofte continued to run away all alone out front. Tofte raced to the easy win with Suckow winning the battle for second as he held off a charging Shayne Laske for second at the line.

Jordan Tollakson was in search of his second Pure Stock feature of the night as the regularly scheduled event rolled out next and just as he had hoped, Tollakson jumped from 5th to the lead on lap one and outran a great battle for second between Jesse Timm, Marian Konold and Ross Bjerkeset. Tollakson capped off a great night with his second Pure Stock win of the evening.

Steve Weber and Mike Jans paced the field to the green as the Super Stocks took the track for their main event. Jans got the jump and raced into the lead at the start of the race with Cory Tammen settling into second early on as Bob Holtquist moved in on Weber for third. The laps clipped off with Jans stretching his advantage over Tammen, who had his hands full with a closing Holtquist throughout the second half of the event. Jans raced uncontested to his first career Super Stocks win with Holtquist racing by Tammen into second on the final lap.

The Modified feature was by far the best race of the night with Andy Gordon, JJ Schuelke and Nate Heinrich thrilling the crowd in an incredible three-car battle for the lead for the entire eighteen laps of the event. Mike Storck took the lead at the start from the pole, but Gordon quickly pulled to the inside and captured the lead on the second circuit. Once out front Gordon opened up a bit of a lead, while Schuelke and Heinrich were side by side for second. The duo began to close on Gordon throughout the mid point of the race and with just a handful of laps to go Schuelke blasted around the cushion and pulled even with Gordon as the white flag flew. The duo drag raced into turn one and Schuelke used his momentum to blast by Gordon into the lead, which he would hold off of turn four to the checkered and the win.

The final event of the night was the WISSOTA Late Model feature, which saw 7th starting Jeff Wildung pick his way through the field and take the lead on lap seven. Once out front, Wildung cruised to a dominating feature win, while Damin Eilers and Josh Moen were side by side for second early on. Eilers took the spot and tried to hang with Wildung, as Brian Buetler and Moen began to battle for third as the laps wound down. Wildung had the field covered en route to the win as Eilers ran a solid second and held off Buetler at the line for second.
